LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- There were two important medical marijuana meetings in Little Rock Thursday.

Thursday morning The Board of Health passed the Arkansas Department of Health's medical marijuana rules, now the rules go on to the next stage, public comment.

Three topics in the rules were advised by the board to go on for further discussion in the legislature; people prescribed medical marijuana being able to share it, allowing visitors in Arkansas to get medical marijuana while visiting the state as long as they have an identification card, and labeling all medical marijuana prescriptions "not FDA regulated."

Thursday afternoon the Marijuana Commission also met. Cultivation facilities and dispensaries was the first of two topics passed according to Carlos Roman, member of the marijuana commission.

“We've settled on a number of 32 dispensaries and they're going to put based on population we're going to put up eight zones, there's going to be a different numbers of dispensaries in each zone but based on population,” said Roman.

Then there was the debate of Selection process for dispensaries.

“We're going to grade things out on a merit system and if there's a tie or if they're in close proximity then it will go to a lottery system; what we're really trying to do is keep this thing out of court so it won’t be delayed in implication,” said Roman.

The next marijuana commission meeting is February first at 4 p.m.
