PINE BLUFF, Ark. — In front of lots of supporters on campus, the UAPB Golden Lions golf team found out that they'll be playing in the Baton Rouge Regional later this month after they earned an automatic bid after winning the SWAC title, for the second year in a row.
"I feel so happy for this community and university," UAPB golf head coach Roger Totten said.
"We are going to play with the best teams in the country and nation, a great experience for HBCU universities," UAPB freshman golfer Jose Berenguel said.
This is also only the second NCAA postseason appearance for the Golden Lions.
UAPB is one of only two HBCUs to earn a spot in this year's NCAA golf regionals, with Howard being the only program
Making it this far is not only big for the program but also big for the Pine Bluff community.
"I mean all the people in the school support us a lot. Even if we lose our win they support us a lot," Berenguel said.
The regional will happen on May 13-15, 2024.
