CONWAY, Arkansas — There's exciting news on the horizon for students in Conway!
The University of Central Arkansas Honors College is partnering with the Nobel Peace Center for an inaugural event.
A group of students will be taking a class that focuses on negotiating peace by looking at past Nobel Peace Prize recipients.
"We are going to have profiles that we are going to do and we are going to have a poster session that will be open to the public, so people can come in and read these stories about different Peace Prize winners," said Cindy Lea, Honors Professor who's teaching the course.
To be a part of this class, Lea submitted her course syllabus to the National Collegiate Honors Council and the Nobel Peace Center. Her class will be on negotiation techniques and how these methods can contribute to creating peace around the world.
Next semester, several students will take the course in hopes to further their education on a global level.
"It is another opportunity for students to learn about the world around us even if they don't have the opportunity to study abroad or didn't take advantage of particular opportunity while they were in school," said Patricia Smith, Dean of UCA Honors College.
After the class is done, some of the students will go to the National Collegiate Honors Council Conference to share their projects with other schools that a part of the program.
"They are hoping more students are going to be studying the Nobel Prize winners and then sharing that knowledge with other people," said Lea.
Earlier this year, Little Rock native John Jumper won a Nobel Prize in chemistry. It was for his work creating an AI-based system that can predict protein structures.
