CONWAY, Ark. — According to the University of Central Arkansas's police department, Rebekah Harpool, a sophomore honors college student at the university, was killed Wednesday evening after getting hit by a car on campus.
The school said Harpool was hit in the parking lot east of the school's HPER gym.
The honor's college is directly across the street from the entrance of the HPER.
In an email sent to all students, the school said:
"There are no words to convey the depth of pain that our UCA family feels over the loss of one of our students. Rebekah's passing is incredibly sad and her UCA classmates, along with faculty and staff, are heartbroken at this news."
Harpool was a sophomore in the Schedler Honors College and was pursuing a degree in special education.
Junior Braden Purvis says Rebekah was always a delight to be around.
"She was so sweet and so nice… she was so friendly to everybody."
The school said the counseling center will be open for anyone needs to talk to someone.
The dean of the university's honors college stated, "We are all heartbroken by this loss. Rebekah was a loving student with a great sense of humor."
