'Big Boy' steam locomotive making its way back to Arkansas in September

All aboard! It’s full steam ahead for Union Pacific’s Big Boy No. 4014 as it makes its way back to Arkansas in September.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Union Pacific's Big Boy No. 4014, the world’s largest operating steam locomotive, is once again returning to Arkansas as part of the "Heartland of America Tour."

The locomotive is on an eight-week tour that starts in Cheyenne, Wyoming on August 28, 2024. It will then travel across nine additional states including Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas.

No. 4014, the only operating Big Boy of the eight still in existence, will be making its return to the Natural State in September.

It will be in Arkansas for a few days before heading off to its next location in Texas.

Friday, September 13, 2024:

Poplar Bluff, Missouri (9:00 a.m. departure) to Jonesboro, Arkansas

Saturday, September 14, 2024:

Jonesboro, Arkansas. (9:00 a.m. departure) to North Little Rock, Arkansas

  • Hickory Ridge, Arkansas (Laurel St. Crossing) | Arrival 10:30 a.m. | Departure 11:00 a.m.
  • Brinkley, Arkansas (Central Delta Depot Museum) | Arrival 12:15 p.m. | Departure 12:45 p.m. 
  • Pine Bluff, Arkansas (Pine Bluff Museum Depot) | Arrival 3:00 p.m. | Departure 3:30 p.m.

Sunday, September 15, 2024:

  • North Little Rock, Arkansas (Union Pacific Railroad) | Public viewing from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Monday, September 16, 2024:

North Little Rock, Arkansas (8:00 a.m. departure) to Texarkana, Arkansas

  • Kingsland, Arkansas (Maple St. Crossing) | Arrival 11:45 a.m. | Departure 12:15 p.m.

From this point, the locomotive then makes its way to Dallas, Texas on the morning of September 17, 2024.
