ARKANSAS, USA — The University of Arkansas Board of Trustees has announced that retired United States Air Force Lieutenant General Jay B. Silveria will be the next system president.

Silveria is expected to begin his new role on Jan. 15, 2025, once an employment agreement has been established.

He currently serves as Associate Vice President and Executive Director of Texas A&M University and the Bush School of Government & Public Service in Washington, D.C., and was formerly superintendent at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Following the announcement, the UA Board shared their excitement at Silveria's appointment as the new system president.

“I believe we’ve found a proven leader who brings unmatched qualities, achievements, and experience from his time in the military and in higher education to our System that will help us navigate the myriad of opportunities and issues facing our campuses, divisions, and units," said Kelly Eichler, chair of the UA Board. "The Board is very proud of this selection, and we are looking forward to welcoming General Silveria and his family to Arkansas, and helping him familiarize himself with our unique System and our dedicated students, faculty, and staff across the state.”

Last summer, Dr. Donald R. Bobbitt who is the current UA System President, announced plans to retire after over 13 years in the role. Following the announcement, the Board of Trustees underwent a national search in August to fill the position -- ultimately selecting Silveria to replace Bobbitt after his retirement.

“I am humbled by this opportunity to lead the UA System and feel that there is tremendous potential to build on its outstanding reputation and high-quality programming," Silveria said.
