LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) -- As of 7:30 a.m. Monday, more than 25,000 Entergy customers were without power as wintry weather moves through the state. That number was down to about 850 by 12:45 p.m.

According to Entergy Arkansas, most of the outages were in Independence County with more than 11,000 without power.  Around noon, Entergy reported about 200  customers at Calico Rock and about 100 customers at Batesville without power.

The power company said a power line came came into contact with part of transmission structure, knocking out power at a large number of customers. A spokesperson said two factors played a role in the outage. First, the line was apparently being upgraded and was left in a temporary position that wouldn't have been a problem if the second factor hadn't come into play. Temperature apparently caused the line to contract in Sunday night's 12-degree air.

The company does not expect a repeat of the outage should more low temperatures come in.
