LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - There's an email making the rounds and, in tonight's Verify segment, a THV 11 viewer asks us to find out if it's real or fake.
The email reads in part, "all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and you will start to receive sales calls...YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS." To prevent this, the email says to call 888-382-1222 from your cell phone and to help others by passing this on.
THV11 viewer K. Hardcastle asks, "Can you verify that the phone number 888-382-1222 is a real Do Not Call number for cell phones, since I have heard that all cell phone numbers will be released to telemarketing companies?"
Yes, the phone number is the real Do Not Call number but that is the only part of this email that is accurate.
The federal trade commission and the FCC share that telemarketing to most cell phone numbers has always been illegal in most cases and will continue to be so. Cell phone numbers will not be going public.
