Early voting turnout higher than normal in some Arkansas counties

Some county clerks in Arkansas say they have been seeing a higher-than-normal turnout for early voting— breaking some records.

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — As we close out the first week of early voting, several areas in Central Arkansas have been reporting a great turnout.

"It has been fantastic," said Doug Curtis, the Saline County Clerk.

Curtis said he is someone who always gets excited during election season, but this year he has been seeing the excitement from others flow in for early voting.

"We set records for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday [and] I believe Thursday also," he explained.

As of Friday afternoon, 25% of registered voters in Saline County had already cast their ballot. Also, voter registration for people in the area has increased to 80,000 people.

Curtis said that if voting keeps up, they will have more people than ever before making sure their voice is heard.

Pulaski County has also been seeing more voters than normal.

This week more than 40,000 people have cast their ballots, which is about 20% of the county's registered voters.

"There's no reason not to vote. They have every reason to vote and they need to make sure they vote the whole ballot," said Terri Hollingsworth, the Pulaski County Clerk.
