UTAH, USA — Rodeo star Spencer Wright and his wife Kallie are mourning the loss of their 3-year-old son, Levi, who passed away after a near-drowning accident two weeks ago left him with severe brain damage.
Kallie shared on Facebook on Sunday that after many discussions with their doctors, she and Spencer had made the decision to take Levi off life support.
"Levi showed us just enough to buy us time for all of this," Kallie wrote in her post. "We prayed those things were him defying odds & proving to us that he wanted to stay here but we see now he wanted to give us time to find peace with letting him go."
On May 21, Levi crashed into a Utah river while playing on a toy tractor and had to be airlifted to the hospital. In social media updates after the accident, Kallie shared that Levi opened his eyes briefly in the hospital, but further tests showed significant brain damage. Kallie now believes this was Levi's way being "thoughtful and considerate" and helping his family grieve. "I truly believe he did that for us."
"Here soon I'll climb into bed with my baby and hold him as he falls asleep for the last time on this earth," Wright continued. "I find comfort in knowing he will be restored to the perfect little boy he was & have the ability to do all the things he loves!"
Wright referenced the family's faith, adding that "there are angels up there waiting to hold him until I can again."
A family friend and spokesperson, Mindy Clark, shared that Levi passed away on June 2. She thanked the thousands of people who prayed for Levi.
"We’ve never seen or experienced anything like it," she wrote. "I don’t know that we will ever be able to process it fully."
Kallie and Spencer Wright share two other children: Steeley, 5, and Brae, 9 months.
