New mayors elected across Arkansas in 2022 runoff elections

Here's a breakdown of several runoff in Arkansas, including many cities electing new mayors.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Several cities in Arkansas elected new mayors Tuesday night as runoff elections were held across the state.

Here's a breakdown of many of those races.

In Earle, the town elected 18-year-old Jaylen Smith, who will become the youngest Black mayor in the United States.

Several incumbent mayors lost. Charlotte Young defeated incumbent Mayor Julian Lott in Camden while in Jacksonville Jeff Elmore defeated incumbent Mayor Bob Johnson. And in Searcy, incumbent Mayor Kyle Osborne lost to Matt Faulkner.

A new mayor was elected in Sheridan for the first since 1988. Local youth pastor Cain Nattin defeated Justin Wise, the son of current Mayor Joe Wise who is retiring after 34 years.

In Sherwood, long time city council member Mary Jo Heye-Townsell defeated incumbent Mayor Virginia Hillman Young.
