BRYANT, Ark. — As voters prepare to head to the polls in this primary, candidates have been out and about trying to make connections.
On Super Tuesday, the city of Bryant will have a new mayor.
We caught up with both of the candidates to learn what they hope to accomplish in that role.
The two choices on the ballot for the new mayoral candidate are Jason Brown and Chris Treat.
This comes nearly six months after former Mayor Allen Scott resigned and Rhonda Sanders stepped into his role temporarily.
Both Treat and Brown said they felt called to step up and serve their city.
"I prayed about it. My wife and I talked about it. And the Lord has led me to do it. So here we are," Brown explained.
"I really see myself as standing on their shoulders, right, the folks that came before me, and then hopefully handing this off to continue to be a great place to live to the people that come after us," Treat said.
Both men have some leadership experience within the city.
Brown is the former CEO of the Bryant Chamber of Commerce and is a current city council member and Treat has served as the parks and recreation director for 8 years.
They both said they have several goals they want to accomplish if elected.
"We have to stay within our budget, without raising taxes," Brown described. "We have to improve our infrastructure. We've grown so fast that some things have fallen by the wayside. And there are some things we can do better, we have to focus on our water rates, our water rates are high."
Brown added that he also wants to focus on business growth and improve transparency.
For Treat, that has four pillars.
"It's vision, leadership, problem-solving, and economic development. But the biggest thing that I want to do is rebuild trust between the residents and the leaders," Treat explained.
Both Brown and Treat hope they will have the opportunity to bring their ideas to life as mayor.
"I have a history of working hard for our city and that's not going to stop," Brown said.
"I just need the supporters to show up and vote," Treat said.
The polls will open bright and early at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 5, and will remain open until 7:30 pm.
