LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Arkansas voters have chosen who will be their next lieutenant governor and attorney general.
In the race for lieutenant governor, Arkansas voters have selected Leslie Rutledge with nearly 64% of the vote as of 11:30 p.m.
Rutledge is the first woman elected to serve as Arkansas's lieutenant governor.
Although no polling has been released in the race, current Attorney General Leslie Rutledge made national news after an interview with Jon Stewart regarding Arkansas's law banning gender affirming care.
Kelly Krout (D), who has over 100,000 followers on TikTok, was hoping to capitalize off of Rutledge's interview with Stewart.
Krout currently has 32.6% of the vote so far.
The job of the lieutenant governor is to primarily serve as the president of the state Senate, only casting a vote in the event of a tie.
But if a governor has died, become disabled, or was removed from office, the lieutenant governor is first in line to replace them.
Outgoing Lieutenant Governor Tim Griffin (R) has successfully been elected as the state's next attorney general.
Griffin received 67% of the vote as of 11:30 p.m., while his opponent Jesse Gibson (D) currently has 32.7% of the vote.
Griffin, who has been a fixture in Arkansas politics since at least 2010, will now hold his second position in the state's executive branch. He served as lieutenant governor since assuming office in 2015.
He also served as an Arkansas congressman from January 2011 until January 2015.
