LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — Little Rock will soon have a new board director after Andrea Lewis replaces the current ward 6 director, Doris Wright.
"Growing up I saw my dad run and he was on city council for years. My mom was on the school board all my elementary years," said Lewis.
Andrea has lived in Little Rock for almost 20 years. She works at a bank where she focuses on brand outreach and financial literacy.
She said that community service has always been a part of her life, but now, she's looking to go further.
The spark to run for city director stemmed from the political environment she witnessed in Little Rock.
"I was thinking who could do it, who could run... we need a new perspective, new ideas, who could do it? Well, it's me," said Lewis.
She will soon be the director for ward 6, which spans from Kanis in west Little Rock, east to John Barrow, and farther to University.
Once in office, she hopes to begin working on three specific things: open communication between her and the people, holding regular meetings with those she represents, and bringing community events to the area.
"I want to cross those lines, so we can have a great diverse neighborhood, but still be considered as one neighborhood within the ward," said Lewis.
She will take office next year on January 1st, 2023.
