GOP's French Hill wins US House seat in Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Republican businessman French Hill has been elected to a U.S. House seat representing the Little Rock area and other parts of central Arkansas.

Hill defeated Democrat Pat Hays and Libertarian Debbie Standiford in Tuesday's contest. The 2nd Congressional District was vacated by Republican U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin, who was elected lieutenant governor on Tuesday.

Hill is the chief executive officer of Delta Trust and Bank. He'd campaigned on limiting federal government spending and giving state and local government more control over the way they spend that money.

Hays is a former mayor of North Little Rock. During his campaign, he touted his 24 years leading that city as evidence he can work in a bipartisan manner. He had said job creation and improving the economy were his top issues.
