Little Rock reelects directors to seats | What it means for the city

Election day is behind us and local leaders are making plans for the future of Little Rock as directors Joan Adcock and Antwan Phillips prepare to serve another term

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — Election day may be behind us, but now local leaders are making plans for the future.

Both Little Rock directors — Joan Adcock and Antwan Phillips — were re-elected to their respective seats.

"It was a hard campaign, but everyone worked hard. I had wonderful people working with me," said Director Joan Adcock.

Adcock was reelected to her seat as an At-Large Little Rock City Director. She continues to be the longest-serving director with more than 30 years in her position.

"There's some things we need to change in this city and some things we could do better," she said.

Director Adcock wants to focus on Little Rock neighborhoods for her next term. This includes addressing rental inspections, the city's unsheltered population, and bringing back neighborhood associations.

"So, we need to go back and look at some of the things we thought we had put in place to protect our neighborhoods that are no longer protected," said Adcock.

Antwan Phillips was reelected for his second term as an At-Large Little Rock City Director.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to be reelected. I know it's a responsibility to represent the city," he said.

Phillips said the failure of the sales tax proposal is disappointing, but he still has a vision for the future.

"It's tough to do those things when we don't have the resources... So what I would ask of anyone who elected me is patience," he said.

Director Phillips wants to continue to reduce crime, spur economic growth, and create more recreational activities.

"We are going to do all we can to continue to make Little Rock a place for everyone," said Phillips.

The 1% sales tax increase was turned down by voters. This is the second time it failed since the mayor was elected.
