LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — One day after the Arkansas Poll said Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders had the lowest approval rating for an Arkansas governor in 20 years, a new poll by Morning Consult lists her as the 12th most popular governor in the country.
The Morning Consult poll, which was released on Oct. 31, looked at the popularity of governors and senators across America. Sanders landed in 12th place with a 60% approval rating and 31% disapproval.
That polling is based off "three-month averages of monthly roll-ups derived from Morning Consult's daily U.S. tracking survey." That three-month average took place from July until September.
Sanders also garnered strong approval among likely Trump voters with 83% support, according to the poll. People who voted for President Joe Biden in 2020 gave her a 27% approval.
In the Arkansas Poll she had a 48% approval rating, which was the lowest for that poll in the last 20 years. Only her father, former Governor Mike Huckabee, had a lower approval rating with 47% support in 2003. Voters for this poll were asked between Oct. 4 and Oct. 22.
Another local poll, the Arkansas Wire tracking poll by Opportunity Arkansas, shows Sanders' overall support dropping from 52% to 45% over the course of 2023.
But Sanders' communications team has focused on the Morning Consult poll on social media, saying she ranks as the fourth most popular among governors elected for the first time in 2022. She also ranked first in that category when compared to other first time Republican governors.
In response to the Arkansas Poll, Sanders said she was proud of her "bold, conservative policies" that were signed into law by her and the legislature.
"Under her leadership, Arkansans have more money in their bank accounts, families have choice in their education, more Arkansans are working, and businesses are flooding to the Natural State" claimed Alexa Henning, Sanders' communication director. "Arkansans are feeling more optimistic due to the governor’s leadership and that’s reflected in the 6-point increase in those that feel the state is headed in the right direction."
