ST FRANCIS, Arkansas — Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders has called for a convention in St. Francis to fill a Republican Party vacancy that will determine the Justice of the Peace candidate for the District 6 race.

According to a press release sent by the governor on Tuesday, the convention is being called after Greg Gray, the previous certified Republican nominee, withdrew from the general election due to an "unavoidable illness," creating a vacancy.

Gray was named the nominee following a primary election in March. The St. Francis County Election Commission certified the results, with Gray officially being named the nominee on March 15.

Due to Gray's withdrawal, the convention is being held no later than Aug. 6 in an attempt to fill the vacancy.
