LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — During a subcommittee meeting on Sept. 17 Arkansas lawmakers moved to advance a funding request from Arkansas State Police for $1.2 million in ARPA funds for Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders' security detail.
On Tuesday the Arkansas Legislative Council's Performance Evaluation and Expenditure Review subcommittee met in regard to a number of items, including state awards for American Rescue Plan Act appropriations.
In a letter from ASP's Colonel Mike Hagar to Jim Hudson with the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration, the Arkansas Department of Public Safety Division of Arkansas State Police requested the funds for "enhanced security efforts of the executive protection detail which includes equipment and related professional services."
Hagar's letter came just one day after the sentencing of Susan Scott, a 66-year-old woman that pleaded guilty in August to threatening to build a bomb and blow up the office of Gov. Sanders.
5NEWS reached out to the governor's office about the funding increase, which redirected to ASP.
5NEWS also reached out to State Senators Bart Hester and Greg Leding, who serve on the subcommittee, but has not yet heard back.
The Arkansas Legislative Council is expected to consider the funding request during a meeting on Friday, Sept. 20.
