TIMELINE: Events leading up to guilty plea in Camden man's murder

CAMDEN, Ark. (KTHV) - A story that THV11 has been following since December of 2014 finally came to end on Friday, when 19-year-old Austin Hill pleaded guilty to the robbing and killing of a Camden grocery store manager.

CAMDEN, Ark. (KTHV) - A story that THV11 has been following since December of 2014 finally came to end on Friday, when 19-year-old Austin Hill pleaded guilty to the robbing and killing of a Camden grocery store manager. 

Several things have happened since the day 63-year-old Richard Anders was killed outside Mac's Fresh Market in Camden. Below is a timeline that follows the story, beginning with Anders' tragic death and ending with Hill spending the rest of his life in prison. 

Timeline

  • Friday, Dec. 19, 2014 - The manager of Mac's Fresh Market in Camden, 63-year-old Richard Anders was found shot outside the grocery store around 5:30 p.m. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Camden police state that he was headed to make a deposit of $13,000 when he was shot and robbed. There was reportedly no sign of a struggle. 
  • Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014 - Austin Hill, 19, was arrested during a traffic stop for the murder of a Richard Anders. According to police, several tips led them to Hill. He is charged with Capital Murder and Aggravated Assault.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2014 - Jaquestin Anderson, 20, turns himself in as the second person involved in the murder of Richard Anders. Anderson was an employee at Mac's Fresh Market and allegedly assisted in the crime. He is also charged with Capital Murder and Aggravated Assault. 

  • Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015 - Ouachita County Sheriff's Office announces to the public that Austin Hill has escaped and should be considered dangerous. He escaped the county jail on Wednesday, Sept. 9 by jumping out of a van that was returning him from a hospital. A $2,500 reward was offered to anyone with information that could lead to his arrest. 
  • Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015 - Ouachita County Sheriff David Norwood admits human error played a role in Austin Hill's escape. A gate was not immediately closed behind the van, giving Hill enough time to escape. Sheriff Norwood also stated that when Hill left the hospital he had leg irons on, but they were no longer on him during the escape.  
  • Monday, Sept. 14, 2015 - Austin Hill is captured around noon at an Exxon located near mile marker 123 in Bryant, Ark. The stolen truck he was driving linked police to his whereabouts. Police also received tips that Hill was in the area. 
  • Friday, February 12, 2016 - Austin Hill, now 20 years old, pleaded guilty to charges of Capital Murder and Aggravated Robbery in Ouachita County Circuit Court. He was sentence to life in prison without any chance of parole on both charges.
