PULASKI COUNTY, Ark — According to the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, two Wrightsville families are without homes after an early morning fire.
Gladys O'Neal was at work Tuesday morning, when she got the call that her house was on fire.
"They said clock out and go take care of your business. Go do what you gotta do," O'Neal said. "When I got home, everything was gone."
The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office and multiple volunteer fire departments responded to the fire around 5 a.m. The flames shooting out of O'Neal's home spread to her next door neighbor's.
"That's when our deputies started waking people up to ensure everybody was out because we wanted to make sure," said Mitch McCoy with the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office. "We were in fear the fire was going to jump to two additional mobile homes.
Thankfully, no one was hurt.
Firefighters ultimately contained the flames to the two homes initially involved.
Now, the Red Cross is helping O'Neal and her neighbor, left with little more than the clothes on their back.
"A lot of memories gone down the drain, but I'm blessed that no one was in this house," O'Neal said.
Gladys said she had multiple space heaters plugged in at the time of the fire. Now she has a message for others this winter.
"If y'all have space heaters in your house, please make sure you cut them off and unplug them because that's the result of a space heater," she said, referring to the area where her home used to be.
Even in light of loss, O'Neal is just thankful she, her husband, grandson, and neighbors are safe.
