BENTON COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - Benton County police is searching near Beaver Lake for a missing 21-year-old.
According to officials, Stacey Hernandez and four of her family members were out on Beaver Lake Tuesday, March 24. Three of them were in a canoe, while the other two were in a paddle boat.
Our news affiliate KFSM reports that the paddle boat with two of the family members began to fill with water as they were out on Beaver Lake. The others in the canoe tried to assist them causing the canoe to flip. All five of them then swam to shore in different directions causing them to get separated. Deputies said they received the call concerning the disappearance of Hernandez around 4 p.m.
Search crews stated that the water was around 50 degrees Tuesday. A helicopter flew over the area of where Hernandez disappeared Wednesday, but said that the water was too murky to see anything.
Crews have recovered the paddle boat and are still unclear on why it sank.
