LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Little Rock women's basketball coach Joe Foley is retiring after 37 seasons, the university announced on Thursday.

"I always wanted the opportunity to coach and teach, not just basketball, but also the game of life," Foley said. "I'm proud of the accomplishments and success our program has experienced over my 21-year tenure, but without a doubt, I am most proud of the impact we've made on the lives of hundreds of young women. Being their head coach is one of the greatest honors in my life."

Foley spent the last 21 years with the Trojans. In total, over his 37 year career, Foley's teams saw six regular season conference championships, five conference tournament titles and 12 postseason (NCAA and WNIT) appearances.

"Coach Joe Foley is a legend in basketball and will always be fondly remembered by Trojan fans," said Little Rock Trojan Director of Athletics Frank M. Cuervo. "His contributions to the institution and its athletics program are too numerous to count."

After the 2023-24 campaign, the Hall of Fame coach was the second-winningest active head coach in NCAA women's basketball with 866 career victories.

Foley, the 2010, 2011, 2015, 2017 and 2018 Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year, finished with a 410-243 (.592) record at Little Rock.

Before joining the Trojans in 2003, Foley coached at Arkansas Tech for 13 seasons, where he led the Golden Suns to back-to-back NAIA National Championships in 1992 and 1993 and an NCAA Division II national runner-up finish in 1999.

Now, at the time of his retirement, Foley is leaving the game of basketball as the winningest collegiate basketball coach in the state of Arkansas.
