LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Hall High School retired the jersey of former Warriors' power forward, Bobby Portis, prior to the start of Friday night's game against Maumelle.
Portis was a highly decorated prep player at Hall, earning McDonald's and Parade All-American status in 2013. That same year, he was also named Mr. Basketball for the state of Arkansas.
Portis went on to play collegiately at the University of Arkansas, where he became the program's first in-state McDonald's All-American to sign with the Razorbacks since Corliss Williamson in 1992.
As a freshman, Portis averaged 12.3 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game, earning him a spot on the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman team and second-team All-SEC honors.
A preseason All-SEC selection his sophomore year, Portis led the Razorbacks to a top 25 ranking. As a sophomore, he averaged 17.5 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, 1.2 assists, and 1.1 steals per game and was named one of 20 finalists for the John R. Wooden Award.
He was also selected as the SEC Player of the Year, making him the first Arkansas Razorback to win the honor since Williamson won the award in back-to-back seasons in 1993-1994 and 1994-1995.
Portis was picked 22nd overall in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls, but was traded to the Washington Wizards in February 2019. Prior to being dealt to Washington, Portis was averaging a career-high 14.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
