Greenwood football looks to go back-to-back at state on Saturday

"We have one end goal in mind and we're playing for Isaiah," quarterback Kane Archer said. "That's going to be our goal."

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. β€” Greenwood football is looking to bring home another state title on Saturday, but this trip to Little Rock means a little more.

"We have one end goal in mind and we're playing for Isaiah," said quarterback Kane Archer. "That's going to be our goal."

A win over Shiloh Christian in the 6A state title game would represent everything that wide receiver Isaiah Arrington wanted to accomplish this season.

Arrington passed away in late October, and since then, the team has been determined to keep this season going until the first week of December.

"Most kids our age don't have to go through this," said Archer. "We just leaned on each other. We've been bonding with each other. We've been going out to eat more."

Now all they have to do is take down the Saints, a team the Bulldogs defeated in comeback fashion, 28-17, in the first conference game of the season.

Greenwood head coach Chris Young said the team knows what Shiloh Christian is bringing to the table on Saturday.

"They're different on what they do defensively," said Young. "They cause a lot of confusion and chaos. They're moving around quite a bit. Offensively, they have a good quarterback. I think their running back is the best running back that we've played this year. They have some really talented wide receivers."

Greenwood and Shiloh Christian face off at noon on Saturday, Dec. 7, at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.
