Arkansas reportedly finalizing deal with John Calipari, sources say

Kentucky's John Calipari will reportedly be the new head coach at Arkansas after Eric Musselman left Fayetteville to coach at Southern California.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Sources told CBS Sports' Matt Norlander on Sunday, that University of Kentucky head basketball coach John Calipari has had "serious talks" with Arkansas officials regarding the Arkansas Razorbacks' open coaching position.

For the last 15 seasons, Calipari has been the leader of the Wildcats program, and if he were to fill the Hogs' vacant position he would then remain in the SEC, and replace former head coach Eric Musselman after he took the head coaching job at USC earlier this month.

There had been conversations surrounding who would take the job after Musselman's departure and several names had been in the running including Ole Miss' Chris Beard, Kansas State's Jerome Tang, and McNeese State's Will Wade.

The news of Calipari being in talks with Arkansas comes weeks after he met with Kentucky athletic director Mitch Barnhart where it was said that Calpari would remain with UK for his 16th season.

Sources also told Norlander that Arkansas' biggest donor, the Tyson family, is prepared to make a major commitment to land Calipari, who they say has been very close with the Tyson family for years.

According to sources from ESPN, Calipari is expected to complete the deal within the next 24 hours and sign a five-year deal to become the new Arkansas basketball head coach.
