Green's 317 total yards, 4 TDs help Arkansas over UAPB in season opener

Arkansas scored a touchdown on all 10 offensive possessions and finished with 70 points, the most in a single game for the program since 2015.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Quarterback Taylen Green racked up 317 total yards and four touchdowns, while running back Ja’Quinden Jackson added 121 yards and two more scores to help Arkansas blow past Arkansas-Pine Bluff 70-0 Thursday at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.

And the Razorbacks kicked off their 2024 season with a bang, scoring a touchdown on all 10 offensive possessions. The program's 70 points were the most in a game since 2015, and the 70-point shutout victory was the largest since 1916.

Underneath a cloudy but sweltering sunset, Arkansas got off to the exact start they wanted. The Hogs marched 66 yards down the field on their first possession of the game as Jackson scored an 8-yard touchdown to give Arkansas a 7-0 lead.

Jackson finished with 101 rushing yards and two touchdowns on eight carries. The Utah transfer also had two catches for 20 yards.

UAPB struggled to move the ball all night, failing to pick up positive yardage on its first three drives and finishing with 128 total yards of offense.

There were no such issues for the Razorbacks, who tallied 687 yards.

After forcing a quick three-and-out, quarterback Taylen Green flashed his dual-threat ability and ran in a 4-yard rushing score. On the next drive, Jackson and Arkansas struck gold again, finding a seam to break off a 46-yard touchdown tote.

Green, a transfer from Boise State, completed 16-of-23 passes for 229 yards and two scores. He also added 88 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

The Hogs held the Golden Lions to just five total yards in the first quarter, which allowed their offense to quickly get back on the field and develop a rhythm in new offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino's offense.

With 1:12 to play in the first quarter, Arkansas added another touchdown thanks to a 4-yard rushing score from transfer running back Rodney Hill to put the Hogs up 28-0.

In the second quarter, Green connected with wide receiver Tyrone Broden and tight end Ty Washington for a pair of touchdowns, and he also scrambled for a 36-yard score to put the Razorbacks up 49-0 at the half.

Razorback wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa had a game-high 53 receiving yards on three catches, while wide receiver Jordan Anthony finished with 46 yards.

Arkansas pulled some starters in the second half as the two teams finished the game with 10-minute quarters.

The Razorbacks return to action on the road against Oklahoma State on Sept. 7. Coverage from Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Okla., begins at 11 a.m. on ABC.

UAPB will host Arkansas Baptist at Simmons Bank Field in Pine Bluff on Sept. 7 at 7 p.m.
