FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas — Head Coach Sam Pittman was on the Arkansas staff from 2013 to 2015 as the offensive line coach under former head coach Brett Bielema.
In Pittman's final year at the position, he helped create an offense that was second in the SEC in total and scoring offense, and third in passing offense.
Before that, Pittman had a chance to work with the best.
About a month into his time on the hill (the first time), he was offered a job as the offensive line coach at Alabama, but Pittman says he couldn't take it and leave his Hogs hanging that early.
I loved it here at the time as an assistant coach, as well as now. I'd given Brett my word and the kids, I was their coach. I called my mom and she said I didn't raise a son who would do that so that was the end of it".
Alabama head football coach Nick Saban still has lots of respect for Pittman and applauds him for what he's done at Arkansas.
"Those guys are tough, they're physical, and they play hard. They do a great job. They're well-coached. It's a reflection of sam's personality and that's how their whole team is," Saban said.
These two will see each other again in Fayetteville on October 1st. You can watch the game on CBS at 2:30 PM.
