Stromberg voted best blocker in SEC

The Arkansas center started all 12 games and did not allow a sack or quarterback hit this season.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. β€” University of Arkansas senior center Ricky Stromberg has earned this year's Southeastern Conference Jacobs Blocking Trophy, given to the league's most outstanding blocker as determined by the conference’s head coaches.

Stromberg is the fourth Razorback to win the award and the first since Sebastian Tretola did in 2015. Jonathan Luigs (2007) and Shawn Andrews (2002-03) also claimed the award as Hogs.

The 6-foot-4 lineman started all 12 games and played a total of 898 offensive snaps. While on the field, Stromberg did not allow a sack or quarterback hit, while helping the Razorbacks average 453.8 yards of total offense per game. Arkansas's offense also finished the season second in the SEC and ninth nationally with 223.4 rushing yards per game.

Under Stromberg’s leadership on the offensive line, the Razorbacks have registered a 100-yard rusher in 10 of its last 13 games dating back to the 2021 season, led by AP First-Team All-SEC recipient Raheim Sanders’ seven 100-yard rushing efforts. Sanders ran for 1,426 yards and 10 scores this season. Keying the offensive line, the Hogs have totaled 400+ yards of total offense in nine games this season, including four games with 500+ yards. Stromberg paved the way for Hog rushers to run for 10+ yards on 92 rushing attempts this season.

Earlier this week, Stromberg picked up first-team All-SEC praise from the league’s coaches, Associated Press and Pro Football Focus. He was also a two-time SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week honoree this season.

The Jacobs Blocking Trophy originated in 1935 by Dr. William P. Jacobs, the founder and president (1935-45) of Presbyterian College. Each year, the winner is elected in a poll of league coaches.

Arkansas closes out its season against Kansas in the Liberty Bowl on Dec. 28 at 4:30 p.m. in Memphis, Tenn.
