Car drives through drive-thru coffee shop in Scott

The owner of the coffee shop in Scott, Arkansas said crashes are pretty common along Highway 165.

SCOTT, Ark. — Right on the outskirts of North Little Rock in Scott, a business is dealing with extensive damage after a car drove into its building.

As the owner works to figure out what to do next, neighbors are using the situation as message for the nearby city of North Little Rock.

On Wednesday morning, the owner of Old River Coffee said she felt a sudden jolt and then she came outside to a car up against her building.

She said unfortunately wrecks are pretty common on that busy stretch of Highway 165 in Scott.

Old River Coffee owner Brooke Setzer said the building shifted off its foundation by a couple feet and now she's unable to open and left without water.

"Our biggest concern is getting it set back into place. Once we can do that, everybody's kind of waiting on standby to come in and help out," Setzer said.

She said being closed for the past few days has been hard on her business.  "It's income that we're losing, even when insurance pays for all the damages."

That thankfully is the case, but Setzer said it could still take a while to recover from this.

"That is a big decision that my husband and I are facing in the next week. We have a very tight knit community here, and everybody has been so supportive and willing to jump in and help us out," she added.

As for the traffic in the area, she said she and others in the community are trying to bring attention to a rezoning proposal happening in North Little Rock just less than a mile away from the coffee shop.

"It's just a very, very busy highway with all the commuter traffic from Stuttgart, England, Keo trying to get to the interstate," she explained.

The group Tyler Investments is behind the push to rezone that mostly residential area for industrial use.

Even though that could mean more traffic and business, Setzer said she'd rather not see that change.

"We would love to bring more residents to this area as a small, tight, knit community, not large corporations and warehouses," she said.

The North Little Rock planning commission is expecting that Tyler Investments rezoning proposal for highway 165 to come up again at their September 10th meeting.

If it does, they will bring it to a vote.
