LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) announced a full closure of Interstate 40 eastbound, just past the exit 153 junction with Interstate 30, from 9 p.m. Saturday until 3 a.m. Sunday.
According to ARDOT, a wreck Friday morning under the I-30 eastbound to I-40 westbound overpass caused a fuel spill and fire. The overnight closure will allow crews to reenter the roadway and clean the spilled fuel from the overpass beams and road.
I-40 eastbound will close just after exit 153, forcing traffic to take exit 153 to I-30 westbound, turn around at exit 142 (Curtis Sykes Drive) and take I-30 eastbound to I-40 eastbound.
ARDOT bridge crews also inspected the I-30 eastbound to I-40 westbound overpass because of the wreck and learned that a column under the overpass would need to be repaired. However, the overpass structure "remains structurally sound."
