JACKSONVILLE, Ark. — After about a year of construction, the new North James Street Bridge that goes over Highway 67/167 in Jacksonville is finally scheduled to open later this month.

The bridge is scheduled to open on Monday, October 21, 2024.

This year-long closure of the bridge was necessary so that crews could build bridge footings while still maintaining main lane traffic on Highway 67/167. The construction of this new bridge is part of a bigger project to widen the highway to six lanes in the areas between Main Street and Vandenburg Boulevard.

It will now reconnect access between the areas of John Harden Drive and T.P. White Drive. There will be one lane open in each direction and three-way stops will be placed at both lane intersections with the frontage roads.

Continued construction on the bridge will result in two lanes being open in each direction and signal lights will be installed at both of the frontage road intersections.

Traffic in the area will be controlled with barricades and traffic barrels. Drivers in the area are urged to be cautious when traveling through the area.
