LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Temperatures will soar over the century mark on Tuesday and will likely hit above 100 degrees in most of central Arkansas through early next week.
When you combine the sizzling temperatures with the humidity, the result is heat indices climbing above 105 at least. But with excessive warnings in effect, the heat index could surpass 110.
Heat is the number weather-related killer, according to the National Oceanic Atmosphere Administration (NOAA), and we've been dealing with extremely serious and dangerous heat.
Remember to stay cool and stay hydrated. You should avoid doing strenuous activities in the middle of the day.
Try to seek shade and take frequent breaks if working outside.
Triple digit weather
Check on the elderly, as well as those who do not have access to air conditioning. Lastly, don't forget to make sure all your animals have a shady place to relax and plenty of fresh cool water to drink.
Heat-related illnesses can happen fast, so it is extremely important to know the signs and to be able to react quickly.
Unfortunately, dry conditions at the surface and a heat dome in the atmosphere building over the Mid-South will be the setup that will produce the hottest weather that we have seen in several years in Arkansas.
With a string of triple-digit days expected to last for a while, this could place 2022 in the top seven of the most consecutive 100 days on record for Little Rock.
As for any cooling showers or storms, the chance of a stray shower or storm is possible throughout the week. But most locations will stay dry.
The drought will likely continue to worsen across the state and the fire danger will increase.
