When should I expect the heat?

Excessive heat will impact several counties in Arkansas through Friday as heat index values will reach 105 to over 110 degrees.

The National Weather Service issued an Excessive Heat Warning for some southern counties on Friday, and much of Arkansas will see air temperatures soar into the mid to upper 90s.

A cold front will be moving through the state on Friday, so dangerous heat is more likely the farther south you look.

The aforementioned front could take the edge off the heat going into the weekend, which brings along some minor relief as temperatures are expected to remain in the 90s.

The heat index could stay below 100 for some areas this weekend.

How could the heat impact me?

Heat index values are expected to be between 105 and 115 through the afternoon and early evening.

Conditions like this increase the chance of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. These heat-related illnesses can turn serious and even deadly if not treated quickly.

What do I need to stay safe from the heat?

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

The best things to do during this time are to limit time spent outdoors, stay hydrated, and remember to wear light clothing when heading outside.

If you are someone who works outside, remember to take frequent breaks and drink more fluids than you normally would.
