Taste of Fall moving into Arkansas, here's when you should expect it

A welcome change is coming to central Arkansas in the coming days as we could experience our first taste of Fall weather.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Unseasonably hot temperatures have dominated the forecast since the start of the fall season. This will soon be changing, thanks to back-to-back cold fronts that are approaching the state. Here's what you need to know.

The first cold front will still be well off to our west on Wednesday, but central Arkansas will start to see its first round of scattered thunderstorms ahead of the front.

Thunderstorm activity will likely start to develop across southern Arkansas ahead of the morning rush hour.

As the front draws closer to northwestern Arkansas, more thunderstorms will start to develop across the northern half of the state.

Strong, but not severe, thunderstorms are expected across locations north of the I-40 line by the evening rush hour.

The first cold front will actually start to slowly move through the state on Thursday.

The slow movement of the front means that locations further away (southeast Arkansas) may trend warmer, but this will encourage a better chance at more widespread rain coverage.

The first front will move out of the state by early Friday morning, and the second cold front will move through immediately after.

The second front will move faster than the first, and it will be drier as well. Isolated to spotty showers are possible on Friday, but they will stay mainly south and east behind the exiting front.

After the second front passes through, some of this season's coolest temperatures can be expected over the weekend. Overnight lows into the low 40s are expected on Saturday morning.

Saturday afternoon's highs will stay confined to the 60s and low 70s.

Sunday morning's lows will be even cooler!  Northwest Arkansas could see temperatures dip as low as the upper 30s.

Even with abundant sunshine, Sunday's high temperatures likely won't make it past the mid 70s.
