LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Many Arkansans could see triple-digit temperatures through the start of the week, and because of this, our THV11 meteorology team has issued a Weather Impact Alert for Tuesday, August 6, 2024.
Due to afternoon highs peaking near or above the 100-degree mark, the alert will be in place from 1:00 p.m. through 5:00 p.m.
Here's what you need to know about the high temperatures rising over the Natural State.
When should I expect the heat?
Monday's high temperatures should peak in the middle to upper 90s. On Tuesday, highs will climb to the upper 90s and multiple locations could reach 100 degrees.
However, Wednesday could offer triple-digit temperatures as well.
The National Weather Service hasn't issued any heat alerts just yet, but heat advisories may be needed for Tuesday.
A cold front moving through the state around Wednesday will offer a bit of relief for the second half of the week. The timing of the frontal passage will largely determine if more alerts are needed for Wednesday.
How could the heat impact me?
Afternoon highs approaching (or exceeding) 100 degrees and heat index values even higher are likely through the afternoon.
Conditions like this increase the chance of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. These heat-related illnesses can turn serious and even deadly if not treated quickly.
What do I need to stay safe from the heat?
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
The best things to do during this time are to limit time spent outdoors, stay hydrated, and remember to wear light clothing when heading outside.
If you are someone who works outside, remember to take frequent breaks and drink more fluids than you normally would.
