LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The next week Arkansans are expected to see near or below freezing temps for several nights and into the morning hours. Here's what it could mean for you and everything you need to do to prepare.
On Sunday, Dec. 1, it will be the start of meteorological winter, which means that the weather will begin to see more winter climate pattern.
Coincidentally, that ushering in of winter weather will bring a series of cold fronts over the next few nights.
When and what to expect
Saturday night into Sunday, the first cold front moves through the state. This front brought snow to central Missouri earlier in the weekend, but the limited moisture in the Natural State will make for a dry frontal progression.
Central and southern Arkansas will likely stay above-freezing Sunday morning ahead of the cold front, but portions of northern Arkansas may see a frost or light freeze.
Another front will quickly move through on Monday to reinforce the colder air, so more of the state can expect subfreezing temperatures Monday and Tuesday mornings.
Temperatures start to pick back up by mid-week, but another cooldown is expected by next weekend.
The most important thing to remember during potentially freezing weather is to protect your pipes, yourself, and your pets. If temps are expected to be under 32 degrees for an extended period of time you should leave your faucets dripping.
We will update this article with more information if the weather forecast changes.
