Arkansas to see heavy rainfall ahead of a big cooldown for Halloween

A weekend cold front will offer a chance for some much needed rain and below-average temperatures as we head toward Halloween.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Halloween is right around the corner for Arkansas and you can expect a heavy dose of rain ahead of a cooldown on Tuesday night.

Central Arkansas has been hurting for some rain after a recent stretch of dry conditions. This September was the 10th driest September on record at the Little Rock airport and we can definitely see the impact this had on our drought.

In fact, the latest update shows that extreme drought has been introduced to portions of Saline, Pulaski, Perry and Faulkner counties.

But a passing cold front will encourage scattered to widespread rain over the weekend and into Monday and Tuesday to end October.

The best chance of rain coverage will come over the weekend, and we'll see drying conditions just in time for Halloween. During this timeframe, parts of Arkansas could see up to five inches of rain.

No threats of severe weather are expected, but heavy downpours are likely. This creates a concern for flash flooding. Much of the state is under a 'slight' risk, or level 2 threat, of flash flooding on Saturday and Sunday.

After the cold front moves through, and the rain concludes, a surge of cold air will move into the state.

This will bring some of the coldest temperatures we've seen in the season, so far. In fact, much of the state could wake up to their first frost or freeze on Wednesday morning.

We'll maintain below-average temperatures through the rest of the week. However, a slow warming trend will ensue, and we'll wrap up in the week a bit warmer than how we started.
