FAULKNER COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) — As rain continues to fall across Central Arkansas, residential flooding is probable near Lake Conway, according to Arkansas Game and Fish.
With floodwater already nearing homes, the area saw another 1.5 inches of rain Thursday night -- possibly even more.
Mike Gangluff has lived near the lake since 2011.
"We had everything built up and cleared before we came up here," he said. "We wanted to get up high enough where we would never get underwater."
While water has never entered Gangluff's home, some of his neighbors down Aldridge Lane have not been as lucky.
"They get water in their house down the road, and it gets pretty bad," Gangluff said.
On Thursday, Faulkner County Judge Jim Baker said homes in low-lying areas would likely experience flooding once again.
"We can't stop the rain," Judge Baker said. "But we'll try to coordinate and serve the public when we can."
After handing out sandbags to dozens of people Thursday, the Faulkner County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is prepared to distribute even more as the flood threat persists.
"[Residents] can come pick up sandbags, take them back to their districts," OEM Director Shelia Bellott said. "We'll be here until they run out, and if they do we'll fill more."
Sandbag distribution will resume at 8 a.m. Friday outside the Faulkner County Office of Emergency Management located at 57 Acklin Gap Road, just outside Conway.
Bellott also urged Faulkner County residents to sign up for CodeRED alerts. The phone, text and email notifications are distributed based on geographical location.
"It's our way of notifying the public if there is an imminent danger to them or their property," Bellott said.
