Pine Bluff saw almost full inch of rain in 16 minutes, causing flash flooding

3.39 inches of rain was recorded at Pine Bluff Monday, which triggered a flash flood warning.

On Monday, 3.39 inches of rain has fallen in Pine Bluff, and it occurred in roughly 16 minutes.

From 5 to 6 p.m., 0.91 inches of rain fell, and from 6 to 7 p.m., 2.09 inches fell.

"An incredible 0.85 inches fell in 16 minutes from 5:53 to 6:09 p.m.," the National Weather Service said in a tweet.

Jefferson County was under a flash flood warning until 9:07 p.m. on Monday night.

Joni Alexander with the city council said the main issue with the flash flooding is not only geographical, but they have an "antiquated system." The city was built on a lake bed and technology has vastly improved since then.

She said the city the fix the problem by fixing piping in the levee system and a retention pond, which could cost an estimated $2 million.

Alexander said that no matter the amount of rain, Pine Bluff will always have a chance of flash flooding.

She advised that less littering will help to avoid clogging up Pine Bluff's drainage system.
