The Fordyce community continues to come together after last week's tragedy, helping each other in several ways.
Multiple food distributions and fundraisers are scheduled in and around Fordyce to help those impacted by the mass shooting on June 21.
"A lot of people are just pitching in to help us get through this," Fordyce City Council member Roderick Rogers said.
Rogers said he's been working on the frontlines since the shooting to help those who need it. His main priority is ensuring people are fed while the Mad Butcher grocery store is temporarily closed.
"When we started, we were pretty much the only one at the time, but man, you have so many different organizations that came into town, such as food banks and other churches, so people have options," Rogers said. "They should have plenty of food to kind of help hold them over."
Besides distributing food, Rogers said mental health resources are available, and more fundraisers are in the works.
"I would recommend you go to my page," Rogers said. "I'm sharing everything I can. You might want to donate something directly to the family, so there's the Cash App or bank information."
The Arkansas Department of Health is also working to ensure the welfare of families and babies through the state's WIC program.
"The Mad Butcher is the only WIC-approved vendor at this time," Arkansas's WIC Branch Chief Mitzi Fritschen said.
It's why Fritschen said they're trying to help open the store as quickly as possible.
"We're working with all the vendors in the area to make sure their stock is plenty to accommodate any of the Dallas County participants that live in Fordyce, and they migrate over," Fritschen said.
The Director of HopePlace in Fordyce said they have also been supplying baby formula to families in need with help from the Mad Butcher.
"I just like to see how the community came together," Rogers said. "Something that was so tragic, we're seeing a little good out of it."
The Flaming Pig BBQ and Silent Arms LE MC are hosting a BBQ fundraiser to benefit the victims on Saturday, July 6, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the intersection of North Edgar Street and West 4th Street in Fordyce.
