Arkansas plagued by poor shooting in SEC opening loss to No. 25 Auburn

The Razorbacks lost to Auburn by 32 points, the most in Bud Walton Arena history.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas's three-game winning streak was snapped in an 83-51 loss to No. 25 Auburn in the SEC opener on Saturday at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville.

It's the largest loss for the Hogs in Bud Walton Arena history, breaking the previous mark of 30 points set in 2012 by Florida.

Keyon Menifield led the Razorbacks (9-5, 0-1 SEC) in scoring with 14 points, while forward Trevon Brazile added 11 points and seven rebounds as the Hogs shot 31% from the field and 7 of 24 (29.16%) from the three-point line.

Arkansas, who entered Saturday winning four of its last five meetings against Auburn, was sluggish to start the game.

The Razorbacks missed their first five shots before Trevon Brazile ended the skid with a three-pointer.

Three-point shooting was challenging for the Hogs, but Menifield, fresh off a 32-point outing against UNC Wilmington on Dec. 30, sparked Arkansas with two three-pointers, which brought the crowd at Bud Walton Arena to its feet.

Menifield's strong play helped the Razorbacks put together an 8-0 run, and led by as many as six points in the first half, but as the clock wound down, the momentum shifted in Auburn's favor.

The Hogs missed six of their last seven shots, and Auburn's Chad Baker-Mazara made a layup and a three-pointer to help the Tigers close the first half on an 11-3 run to take a 37-30 lead into halftime.

Baker-Mazara scored a game-high 16 points to pair with four rebounds and three assists, while Johni Broome added 14 points, a game-high eight rebounds and three assists.

Arkansas's poor shooting carried over into the second half, missing seven of its first eight shots from inside the three-point line.

And Auburn (12-2, 1-0 SEC) took advantage.

Broome scored six consecutive points to open the half as the Tigers put together a 10-0 run to build a 50-32 lead with 13:57 to play in the game.

The Tigers finished shooting 48.6% from the field, including 7 of 18 from three.

Auburn led by as many as 32 points and outscored the Hogs 46-21 in the final 20 minutes to secure its seventh consecutive victory.

Arkansas continues conference action on Wednesday at Georgia. Coverage from Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, Ga., begins at 8:00 p.m. Central on ESPNU.
