Arkansas duo claims SEC weekly honors

Arkansas first baseman Bri Ellis and catcher Kennedy Miller crushed softballs and locked things down defensively, helping the Razorbacks to a 3-1 week.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas first baseman Bri Ellis and catcher Kennedy Miller earned SEC weekly honors for helping the Razorbacks to a 3-1 week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Ellis was named SEC Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, while Miller netted her first SEC Freshman of the Week award. The duo assisted No. 17 Arkansas to its fourth straight series win against Auburn on March 16-17 before handling Texas A&M-Commerce 8-0 in five innings on Monday.

Over the four games, Ellis collected a team-leading six hits in nine at-bats, including two home runs, six RBI, five runs scored, 13 total bases, three walks, and a sacrifice fly. In Saturday's SEC series opener against the Tigers, Ellis crushed a three-run home run to give the Razorbacks an early 3-0 lead. In game two, Ellis hit her team-leading 10th home run on a solo shot to help Arkansas win the series.

Ellis kept her hot bat going with a double against Texas A&M-Commerce, stretching her hitting streak to nine games and her on-base streak to 17.

For the second consecutive week, Ellis anchored the infield at first base with a 1.000 fielding percentage, including 27 putouts and zero errors. The Houston native assisted in turning three double plays across the four games.

Miller made her mark on both ends of the diamond in her SEC debut over the weekend, slashing .545/1.091/.545 in four games. She had six hits and two home runs. Behind the plate at catcher, Miller made 18 putouts, three assists and zero errors.

The Georgetown, Texas, product recorded her second career multi-home run outing in game two against Auburn, smashing a two-run home run in the first and a solo home run in the fourth. The catcher tied her career high in hits after finishing 3-for-3 with two home runs, three RBI and two runs scored in game two to secure the series victory.

The rookie leads all SEC freshmen and ranks fourth in the league with a .448 batting average this season.

Arkansas returns to action Friday with a three-game weekend series against No. 18 Mississippi State. Coverage from Bogle Park begins at 6 p.m. on SEC Network+.
