Arkansas families and activists call for change after minors injured in three separate shootings

After there were three shootings in Central Arkansas involving kids and teens, activist groups and family members of victims have been calling for change.

ARKANSAS, USA — During the last week, there have been three shootings in or near the Little Rock area all involving kids and teens.

Last week, a shooting in Jacksonville left a 5-year-old hurt. Then another shooting in Little Rock on Thursday injured two 17-year-olds. The next day, a third shooting in Little Rock hurt two other minors.

As of Monday night, there have been no arrests in any of those three shootings.

While police investigate, those who have been impacted by gun violence are pushing for more to be done.

A little over one year ago, Glenda Roseburrow lost her 20-year-old grandson Jaylin to gun violence.

"We used to come together for Sunday dinners and laugh and talk. See that's gone forever and we know we can't get that back," she explained.

Now, she meets regularly with other loved ones who lost family members to gun violence, who are all actively pushing for change.

"We can talk about it for two or three wait weeks, and it likes it fades. It goes on and on until we stop the murders," Roseburrow said.

Her frustration has been growing after a violent week in Central Arkansas where three area shootings injured minors.

As family members call for action, activist groups like "Arkansas Stop the Violence" are also working to do just that.

"I want to be an intervention and prevention center, you know, coming and saying, 'You're going in the wrong direction, I just want to let y'all know, right now, that's not the path to take," said Executive Director Reverend Benny Johnson.

Johnson actively works to keep kids busy and away from violence through youth programming and mentoring groups.

"We needed to solve our differences about the acts of violence, and we can do it, we can talk things out. And I really believe that," Johnson added.

Family members like Roseburrow are continually pushing for that change as they grieve their loved ones.

"When you do something like that to a family, there's a hurt and turn away that nothing no one could ever replace," she said.

The Little Rock Police Department explained how overall violent crime continues to trend down in the city and they will continue to investigate these recent shootings.

Anyone with information about these recent shootings is asked to call your local police.
