FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Freshman guard Layden Blocker will enter the transfer portal after one season at Arkansas, the Little Rock native announced on social media Thursday.
Blocker averaged 3.7 points on 40% shooting from the field and 1.6 rebounds in 27 games this past season. He made five starts under head coach Eric Musselman, but didn't play in the season's final five games.
"It was an honor to come home, represent the state of Arkansas, and the Razorback program," Blocker said. "After much discussion and consideration, I've decided to enter the transfer portal."
After spending some time at Little Rock Central, Blocker joined the Razorbacks as a four-star recruit from Sunrise Christian Academy (Belair, Kan.), where he helped the school reach the GEICO High School National semifinals.
"Prayer, hard work, and sacrifice opened up the doors for me to have an opportunity to play college basketball," Blocker said. "I want to thank God for blessing me with the talent to play this game. I want to thank the University of Arkansas basketball coaching staff for recruiting me."
According to Arkansas Athletics, Blocker is the seventh-highest high school prospect the Hogs have signed.
The 6-2, 175-pound guard showcased his skills in a 90-68 loss to Florida on Jan. 13. Blocker logged 23 minutes and scored a career-high 14 points with four rebounds, one assist, one block, and two steals.
"Thank you to all the fans and the community for your love and support throughout the season," Blocker said. "I also want to give a special thanks to the local businesses for your support."
Blocker joins Davonte Davis, Joseph Pinion, Keyon Menifield and Denijay Harris as Razorbacks who entered the transfer portal.
Arkansas currently has eight players on its 2024-25 roster:
Guards
- Khalif Battle
- Tramon Mark
- Cade Arbogast
- Isaiah Elohim
Forwards
- Trevon Brazile
- Baye Fall
- Lawson Blake
- Jalen Shelley
Musselman and the Razorbacks added six players through the transfer portal last year, and the program is reportedly active again this year.
