Arkansas man paralyzed in car accident returns home from rehab

After six months of rehab, Colt Musteen is back in Arkansas, where his family welcomed him with warm hugs. Even through it all, he hasn't lost his positivity.

SALINE COUNTY, Ark — We brought you the story of the Musteen family in December 2023 after Colt Musteen was hit by a car while jogging before Christmas.

The community came together to support the Musteen family during the tough time, and since then, Colt Musteen has been recovering at a rehab facility in Colorado.

Six months later, he's finally back home with his wife and eight kids, who welcomed him with signs and hugs.

"It's been good to come home to kids you would never have seen again," Colt Musteen said. "It's a surreal experience to come back to your life... get like a second chance to be in a different body and take care of them."

Right before Christmas, Colt Musteen was jogging in Saline County when a car hit him, damaging his spine and paralyzing him from the waist down.

But through it all, Colt Musteen hasn't lost his positivity or sense of humor.

When asked what he remembered about the tragic moment, he replied, "Getting hit by a car or jogging? Because both are miserable."

Colt Musteen said he was grateful the person driving stopped and called 911.

The saying "it takes a village" took form for this family. Several people around Saline County and from the Musteen's church congregation provided food and assistance while Colt Musteen was away.

"We have been so blessed," said Bristen Musteen, Colt's wife. "We could be walking through this alone, but we are not. We could be walking through this without the resources, but we are not."

Colt Musteen is now getting used to a new routine at home, showing those around him that life is valuable and people should cherish every minute of it.

"I get asked a lot, 'Are you upset? Are you angry?' not at all... not even a little," Colt Musteen said. "I forgive the person who hit me. This is ultimately a humbling experience, but I also know I am invincible now. I mean, I survived... has anyone else been hit by a car and looks this good?"
