NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A man has now been arrested for his involvement in an aggravated robbery and shooting at a Waffle House restaurant on December 15, 2023.
According to reports, police arrived on the scene around 8:48 p.m. on Dec. 15 after hearing a report that someone had been shot. Soon after arriving, officers said they "located a female victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound."
Witnesses at the scene told officials that a man entered the restaurant with a handgun and started demanding money before shooting the victim. 24-year-old Devontea Clay was later named as a suspect.
Just after 9:30 a.m., on January 29, detectives with the North Little Rock Police Department and members of the U.S. Marshal Eastern District of Arkansas Fugitive Recovery Task Force were able to apprehend Clay.
Mr. Clay had been wanted on charges of aggravated robbery and first-degree battery.
U.S. Marshals had gotten word that Clay had been hiding out at a family member's home in North Little Rock. When they arrived at the home they found him hiding out in the attack.
Clay also had warrants for his arrest for the robbery of a Dollar General in Fort Smith that happened on the same day as the Waffle House incident.
He has now been taken to the Pulaski County Detention Center and is being held without bond. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance at 8:30 a.m. on January 30.
