LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — It didn't take long for former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson to react to the latest Donald Trump news.
On Friday, the Supreme Court said it would decide whether former President Trump could be kept off the ballot because of his efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss, inserting the court squarely in the 2024 presidential campaign.
Hutchinson, one of many Republicans vying for the 2024 GOP nomination, shared his thoughts on X, formerly known as Twitter, and said the news is good, but it could create concerns down the road.
"The Court’s acceptance of this case is good news," Hutchinson said. "The result will define the guardrails for the election. I expect the Court to keep Trump on the ballot for now but it will leave the door open for future challenges. This cloud should concern the GOP."
According to an Associated Press report, justices acknowledged the need to make a decision quickly, as voters will soon begin casting presidential primary ballots nationwide. The court agreed to take up a case from Colorado stemming from Trump's role in the events that culminated in the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Arguments will be held in early February.
Earlier this week, Hutchinson said he would not pardon Donald Trump if he was convicted because it "undermines the principle of equal justice."
Hutchinson trails Trump significantly, who holds a strong lead in all polls ahead of the Jan. 15 Iowa caucus.
Trump is currently facing at least four criminal cases that amount to 91 criminal charges. The charges include two federal indictments related to classified documents and attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election. Trump lost that election with only 46.8% of the vote.
