Police in North Little Rock investigate shooting of local pastor

A congregation in North Little Rock is looking for answers after one of their own became a victim of gun violence over the weekend.

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Some people in North Little Rock have been shaken up after learning the details of a Sunday morning shooting that involved a faith leader in the community.

According to reports, police were called to the scene of a shooting at JFK and McCain Boulevard just before noon on June 2, 2024.

Once they arrived, they found a male victim who was later identified as Reverend Walker. He was quickly taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries where he remains in stable condition.

Reverend Walker's shooting has had other faith leaders like Pastor Carlos Wallace of Word of Truth Christian Fellowship in North Little Rock voicing their concerns about the senseless violence.

"I've never seen him in conflict with anybody, he's just always preaching the word of God, you know, whether it be cold outside, he would have his white robe on preaching the good news of Jesus Christ and telling people to be saved,” Pastor Wallace explained.

He also said that Rev. Walker was doing exactly what "God called him to do." He also added that it really disturbed him knowing what someone would do to a man who has done nothing but spread joy and the good news.

"You would never think that someone would take it that far to shoot someone. I think that was the disturbing part when he really didn't bother anybody, you know, all he does is use his megaphone, telling people to get saved and things that nature,” Pastor Wallace said.

Witnesses at the scene were able to give officers a description of the suspect. Police later found the suspect identified as 20-year-old Latarryes Bush in the 3900 block of North Cypress.

He was taken into custody without incident and was interviewed by detectives at the North Little Rock Justice Center where Mr. Bush admitted to his involvement in the shooting.

He is now being held at the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility without bond on charges of criminal attempt to commit murder, aggravated robbery, first-degree battery, felon in possession of firearm, and possession of a controlled substance schedule VI with purpose to deliver.

The investigation into what happened remains ongoing and we will update with more information as soon as it becomes available.
