Mothers of North Little Rock teens killed last year continue push for justice

It has been almost a year since the shooting deaths of two 17-year-olds in the McCain Mall parking lot. Each day since, their parents have been searching for answers

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — It has been nearly a year since the shooting deaths of two 17-year-olds in the McCain Mall parking lot. Every day since then, their parents have been searching for answers.

The past year hasn't been easy for Roslyn Williams and Keysha Moore. Their sons, Marcus Blue, and Alex Berry, respectively, were bright spots in their lives.

That was cut short last November.

"It was like a nightmare like I wanted to wake up and couldn't," Moore described.

"It's just heartbreaking," Williams added. "Hurts every day, like every day."

Marcus and Alex weren't just close— both mothers said they were more like brothers.

"He was a part of the family, had his room in the house, his covers," Williams said. "It's just, we missed them so much."

On November 11, 2022, the pair was at McCain Mall in North Little Rock. Just after 6:30 p.m. that night, NLRPD responded to the parking lot for reports of shots fired.

When police got to the scene they found both boys, shot inside Alex's car.

Marcus was pronounced dead on the scene, and Alex was transported to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

"It was gut-wrenching, it was like somebody just snatched my heart out of my chest," Moore described.

In the year since things haven't gotten easier. Williams said she still finds herself wanting to call Marcus. It makes it all the harder that both boys had plans for their futures.

"He was like, Mom, I want to go to the Navy," Moore said. "He said, you know, after my first two years in there, I'm gonna go to school, I'm gonna get me a business degree."

"He wanted to go to college, he wanted to get out of Little Rock, that was his plan," Williams said.

Now, both mothers have been pushing for a new goal for Marcus and Alex— finding answers. The North Little Rock Police Department said their investigation is still active and ongoing, and they've looked into leads.

Not a day goes by that Williams and Moore don't think about their sons, and they won't let a day pass them by where they won't be hoping for justice.

"With this situation, my life will never be the same," Williams said. "I will forever be changed by this because you've taken something so precious away from me, and I don't know why. What was the reasoning behind it?"
